What is creativity for Ania Elias?

Creativity for me is many things. Perhaps easiest will be to start with what creativity is not. Creativity is not perfectionism – if you can’t consider the possibility of making a mistake, I don’t believe you can take creative risk. You have to give yourself permission (and expect!) to make mistakes. Creativity can be frightening at times. For example, you may have doubts that you will succeed, or fear the unknown. Once I realized that you can’t avoid uncertainty in your creative journey, that it needs to be embraced, I found the process much more relaxing.

Behind the scenes with Ania Elias

I’d like to start by saying that although I always try to think ‘outside the box’, actually looking at what’s inside the box can often take you by surprise! One of my favourite props to use in food photography is either an old French deep cast iron casserole dish or a wooden box. You can achieve some truly beautiful light when you create your set up inside a deeper container or a wooden box.

Tricks of the trade

I believe that there are three components to creating a beautiful and eye-catching photo. These are: light, a pleasing composition and making the food look delicious and real. The food needs to be the star of the show, and we food photographers and stylists go to great lengths and adopt various tricks to get the images looking irresistible. One secret weapon that I recommend everyone has in their styling kit is Maggi Liquid Seasoning.

5 Best Travel Photography Destinations in 2024

As the days get longer and lighter, it’s time to get outside and start exploring the world again. With the price of flights constantly increasing, many people are opting to lighten the load and travel hand-luggage only.  As photographers this means scaling down the equipment you bring on your next trip. Smaller CSC cameras and lightweight, compact tripods that are easy to fold down and stuff into a backpack are the ideal travel companions for anyone looking to uplift their content game on-the-go. To create your best travel content, you need lightweight equipment that you can rely on.

Enjoy the quiet beauty of Sakura season in Japan with Michiko Seike

I had always wanted a compact and reliable tripod that I could take with me when I was traveling, and that's when I met Manfrotto Befree GT tripod. I've tried several tripods for travel, but most of the compact and lightweight tripods are wobbly. However, this tripod is very stable even when I put a telephoto lens on full format interchangeable lens camera system although it is very compact when folded. I am satisfied with the payload performance, and it doesn't wobble even when the center column is extended high.
