YOUR EQUIPMENT SAFER THAN EVER

A new reference practice for payload measurement

INTRODUCING A NEW SAFE APPROACH TO LOAD CAPACITY

For the first time in the imaging industry, UNI/PdR 105:2021 establishes an official reference practice for payload safety providing full transparency about payload measurements to consumers.

PROTECT YOUR GEAR THANKS TO SAFETY PAYLOAD

No more gear purchased on arbitrary product specifications:

UNI/PdR 105:2021 guarantees that a support loaded with a weight equal to the declared Safety Payload is never jeopardized, no matter the position, taken all the safety parameters into account.

Whereas, Max Payload indicates the maximum load a support can hold, sometimes not taking safety parameters into account. This means that applying the maximum weight, the support’s safety and functionality might be compromised.

Testing and research has resulted in the payload declaration which ensures product performance, granted the following conditions are met:

  HEAD

A photo/video equipment with a weight equal to the Safety Payload UNI/PdR 105:2021 must never slip out of the docking seat in any position the head can take. The loaded head can be firmly and securely locked into every position using an acceptable effort.

  TRIPOD

The telescopic leg sections, center column and spider of the tripod must never collapse under the action of a photo/video equipment whose weight equal to the Safety Payload UNI/PdR 105:2021. The locking mechanisms should be fastened into place using an acceptable effort.

  MONOPOD

The telescopic leg sections of the monopod must never collapse under the action of a photo/video equipment whose weight equal to the Safety Payload Uni/PdR 105:2021. The locking mechanisms should be fastened into place using an acceptable effort.

UNI: THE INDEPENDENT ITALIAN PAN-SECTOR REGULATORY AUTHORITY

The reference practice UNI/PdR 105:2021 has been published by UNI (Ente Nazionale Italiano di Unificazione) the independent Italian pan-sector regulatory body recognised internationally CEN and ISO. As such, UNI is entrusted with the development, publication and promotion of standards and best practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the socioeconomic system together with consumer and environmental protection.

1. Has anything changed at product level?

No. Each product’s features remain the same, but we have redefined the testing procedure and result analysis. This follow what was stated in the UNI/PdR 105:2021. Anyhow every product will present two metrics (Safety Payload and Safety Payload UNI/PdR 105:2021) displayed in the technical specifications section in the product page.

2. Where can I find more information regarding the reference practice UNI/PdR 105:2021?

You can easily find additional details – as well as the complete downloadable file of the reference practice – on the UNI website

3. Is it possible to convert a generic payload measure into the Safety Payload UNI/PdR value?

No, this is not possible. The Safety Payload UNI/PdR 105:2021 is the result of highly accurate tests, conducted under laboratory conditions. These tests consider several parameters and cannot be simplified into a single formula or replicated at home.

4. In the product page I can find two payload declarations: Safety Payload and Safety Payload UNI/PdR 105:2021. What is the difference?

The Safety Payload is the payload resulting from Manfrotto’s proprietary tests. These were run before introducing our compliance with the UNI/PdR 105:2021 reference practice. Safety Payload measure will be reported on running range for a certain period of time.

The new introduced Safety Payload UNI/PdR 105:2021 is the payload tested with new rules and will be reported on ongoing products and new releases, it might happen we report both for a certain period.

5. I already own a Manfrotto product, which payload should I consider?

If you already own a Manfrotto product, please, search for its product code at Manfrotto.com to verify the value that best represents the weight your support can safely load.

If the code is still active, you can access its product page. Check to see if the Safety Payload UNI/PdR 105:2021 is declared. If it is, this is valid for your own tripod.

If the code is no longer active (you don’t find any related product page) or there is no Safety Payload UNI/PdR 105:2021 in the page, please refer to the original payload (declared at the time of purchase). At Manfrotto, we care deeply about our customers’ and our equipment’s safety, so we have always tested products and given performance declarations.
