The Story Behind the Story: Creating the Manfrotto ONE Hybrid Film

Go behind the scenes of the Manfrotto ONE Hybrid launch film and explore the creative vision, filmmaking techniques, and direction by Zac Hancock.

The Story Behind the Story: Creating the Manfrotto ONE Hybrid Film

Every great creative journey comes down to one question: what story do you want to tell?

For director Zac Hancock and the Full Send team, the goal was to create more than a launch video. It was to craft a film that celebrated creativity and spoke directly to today’s hybrid creators.

Drawing on years of insight from photographers and filmmakers, the Manfrotto ONE Hybrid was born out of a shared vision: creative freedom.

Rather than simply filming a product in action, Zac built a world that showcased what creators do best: imagine. The project spanned multiple locations, from a VFX studio build in Manchester to the stunning cliffs of Malta. Each location brought new challenges and, more importantly, new opportunities to push their limits.

Step behind the scenes of this extraordinary journey and discover how Zac brought to life one of our most ambitious and inspiring launch films yet.

Ready to take your filmmaking and storytelling to the next level? Zac pulled out all the stops on this project, experimenting with camera moves, transitions, and creative tricks that bring stories to life.

Here’s five standout techniques from the shoot that you can try yourself to elevate your content and inject more energy into your storytelling.

Creativity isn’t about perfection, it’s about persistence, curiosity, and courage. Zac’s approach reminds us that the best ideas come when we stop chasing control and start imagining more.

Here’s three creative tips and tricks from Zac that any creator can use to make their content more dynamic, engaging, and fun.

Start with the Music

Half of your video’s pace and personality comes from what you hear, so why wait until after the shoot to decide what that is?

It costs nothing but a music subscription. Put your headphones on and start listening to tracks that feel right for the story you’re trying to tell. Is it energetic? Somber? Luxurious? Moody?

Find the genre. Download a few tracks you think might work. Then cut the music down to the length you want your video to be, or even layer three tracks into a 60-second mix. Something magical happens when you do this.

You stop looking with your eyes and start listening with your imagination. Suddenly, you hear where the music should drop out to shift the energy. You sense how long each shot should last and where it should fall on your timeline.

Before you know it, your brain’s writing the script, visualising ideas, and you’re no longer searching your inspiration folder for ideas; you’re searching it to match the idea you’ve already had.

And if you’re doing it right, you’ll realise you need a storyboard that you can place into sections of the song.

This process is free, simple, and it completely transformed the way I create. It’s been my secret weapon, so do me a favour, and keep it a secret.

Sweat the Small Stuff, but Also Don’t…

Confusing? Sure. But knowing the difference is what makes you the most valuable creative in the room.

There are moments when bringing an idea to life feels illogical, it’s time-consuming, impractical, and there’s usually an easier option that only sacrifices the shot slightly… or you hear the words “you can fix that in post” .

But that 10% extra effort? That’s often the magic.

It’s what makes someone stop scrolling, because you cared enough to go the extra mile when most people wouldn’t.

However...

There are also times to forget “the official way” of doing things. You’re on a time limit, the hours are crunching, and your crew are obsessing over the small details which you don’t actually need in that scenario.

You don’t need a follow focus. You don’t need an external monitor. You don’t need a side handle. Sometimes all you need is a camera, a magic arm, and a bit of chaos.

Let go of the gear checklist, experiment, and play… it’ll surprise you.

Just remember: both mindsets serve you well. The trick is knowing when to sweat the small stuff… and when to let it go.

Lead Your Team with One Clear Mission

Most of us start alone: one camera, one lens, and that overwhelming desire to become someone.
But eventually you step into a crew, and suddenly leadership becomes the real skill.

The team you surround yourself with are specialists.
They should be better than you in their lane… sometimes in yours too.
Trust them. Learn from them. And earn their trust through the vision you inspire.

The goal?
Create something only this team could make.

No budget? Doesn’t matter.
The mission becomes about proving what’s possible with just £50.

Think of your idea / shoot like a mountain climb: the weather changes, plans break, chaos hits, but the mission stays the same: reach the summit together.

When everyone’s aligned, the work stops being about obstacles and starts being about possibility…
and possibility is the most powerful fuel for creativity.

It’s undeniable.
It’s undefinable.
It’s unstoppable.

It’s the space where people give every ounce of their skillsets because they believe the team can achieve something unheard of and most of all, something they’re proud of.

Belief in a possibility goes so much further than a day rate.
A united mission is the starting point for brilliance.

So if you want to make work that truly wows the world, inspire a team to care about your idea just as fiercely as you do… and you’ll create something none of you could have made alone.
