50 Years of Manfrotto

It all began in the late 1960s with Lino Manfrotto, a photographer with a clear vision and a hands-on approach. Frustrated by the limits of studio gear at the time, he designed a lamp stand that was both tall and lightweight - a rare combination back then. That first design sparked a whole range of tools that changed how professionals worked.

In 1972, Lino teamed up with technician Gilberto Battocchio. Just two years later, they introduced the first Manfrotto tripod. Its smart design and versatility made it a hit around the world. Products like the Superboom, Autopole®, and Super Clamp® soon followed, becoming staples in photo studios everywhere.

As Manfrotto grew, so did its reach. When Lino’s shares were acquired by the British Vitec Group (now Videndum plc), the brand gained access to new markets and expanded its impact in the global broadcasting and content creation space.
